Caring for Your Animals in the Family

You are here: Home / Services / Vaccinations

7 May 2019

Vaccinations

Vaccinations start at 8 weeks for both dogs and cats as their maternal antibodies subside, they need three core vaccines in total, each vaccination is 4 weeks apart. We then recommend vaccinations on an annual basis for both dogs and cats.

Vaccinations are important as they protect our pets against diseases. A general health check is also included in every vaccine, so its a good chance to bring up any other concerns you have and to ensure your pet is healthy.

Dogs

The core vaccine includes Canine distemper, parvovirus, hepatitis, parainfluenza and adenovirus. We also offer leptospirosis and kennel cough vaccine.

Cats

The core vaccine includes Feline panleukopaenia, calicivirus and rhinotracheitis. We also offer feline FIV vaccine.

Note: Leptospirosis vaccine, Kennel Cough (infectious canine tracheobronchitis) and feline FIV vaccine are separate vaccines which are optional although strongly recommended. Rabies is also a separate vaccine that is available, this is generally given to pets that have come from overseas and are currently vaccinated against rabies. The rabies virus is not currently apparent in New Zealand.
