Head Veterinarian
Lead Veterinarian – New Plymouth Vet Group & St Aubyn Vet Clinic
Rob is a familiar and highly respected figure in the Taranaki veterinary community, having dedicated his expertise to New Plymouth Vet Group since 1980. Known for his warmth, wisdom, and dedication, Rob has long played a pivotal role in shaping the clinical excellence of both practices.
Formerly our Chief Medical Director, Rob recently transitioned into the role of Lead Veterinarian to allow more time for his wider commitments—most notably his recent appointment as President of the New Zealand Veterinary Association. This prestigious position is a testament to his outstanding contribution to the veterinary profession and unwavering passion for animal welfare.
Rob holds a Bachelor of Veterinary Science, a Master of Veterinary Medicine (with Distinction), and Membership with the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Small Animal Medicine. He has a special interest in Oncology, which is now an important part of our clinic offerings. Rob continues to oversee and support major clinical decisions across both clinics, ensuring the highest standards of care are maintained.
In recognition of his conservation and wildlife work, Rob was awarded a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM)—a true honour reflecting his impact beyond the consult room.
Outside of his veterinary work, Rob is a qualified pilot who enjoys exploring the skies of Aotearoa. He and his wife Dawn manage a lifestyle block, share a passion for restoring classic cars, and frequently travel to Scotland to spend time with their grandchild. A true animal lover, Rob also cares for several turtles—longtime rescues from the clinic that have become treasured companions.
